I have sold photography for 30 years, in calendars and to publishers such as National Geo and Audubon. It has been a wonderful avocation. But after 30 years of shooting the natural and cultural landmarks of New England, I find it difficult to maintain a fresh perspective. How many times can you shoot Nubble Light and do it well? How many times can you shoot the standard tourist locations with a new angle, or a view better than you ever have had before? After retiring from my day-job, I found myself shunning the city and gravitating toward natural scenes. Natural landscapes draw me, of course, but my passion lies in abstraction, in expressing my emotions through my photography. Nowadays, if it doesn't make me breathe heavy, it's not a picture. Maybe I will finally call myself an artist.
